Lucia McGinnis is a highly accomplished harpist and educator with over 25 years of experience performing and teaching across Ireland and the UK. A graduate of the University of Limerick with a BA in Irish Music and Dance, Lucia is deeply rooted in the Irish traditional music tradition. Her artistry spans multiple styles, including Irish, World, Classical, and Folk, making her a sought-after performer for weddings, corporate events, and cultural collaborations.
Lucia’s performance career includes notable work with ensembles such as Balkan Orchestra, Basork, contributing to their single For Youssoffia, and the Hellas Ensemble, where the ensemble blends Greek and Irish musical traditions inspired by Seamus Heaney’s Greek Sonnets: Hellas. Recent highlights include performances at the Irish Wings Festival in Greece, the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, and with the Ulster Orchestra in Derry.
In addition to her performance work, Lucia holds a Master’s in Music Therapy from the University of Limerick and has over a decade of experience as a Neurological Music Therapist. She has worked with diverse populations, from children with complex needs to adults in rehabilitation, and served as Northern Ireland Regional Director for Sing & Grow UK, a pioneering parent-toddler music therapy program.
Currently, Lucia is a private tutor at music academies in Derry and the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny, Donegal. Her dedication to nurturing new talent and preserving Irish music is complemented by her involvement in international cultural exchange projects, such as the British Council’s Post-Conflict Music and Culture initiative in collaboration with Iraqi musicians.
